Ransomware Reminder

Are you familiar with ransomware?  It’s a type of malware that, as the name implies, makes money for the attacker by holding files to ransom.

To achieve this, the ransomware encrypts files on a target’s computer and then offers the affected target’s user a chance to decrypt those files again in exchange for money.  Sometimes the demand is in a cryptocurrency to avoid being tracked.

By their design, ransomware attacks are hard to undo once they’ve hit your computer, which makes prevention far better than cure.  Updates are important for keeping a computer secure. They may seem to do nothing but annoy you, but they play an important part in preventing malware from exploiting vulnerabilities.  Anti-malware software is vital to keeping your computer safe, by detecting and removing malware before it has a chance to cause damage.
