Windows 10 Extended Security Updates now free in the UK

Good news for Windows 10 users in the UK:  Microsoft is offering Extended Security Updates (ESU) to help keep your device secure now that official support for Windows 10 has ended as of 14^th October 2025. While ESU was originally going to cost a one-time fee of £24.99, it’s now possible to enrol for free in the UK.

What Is ESU?

The ESU program provides critical security updates for Windows 10 devices until 13^th October 2026. It does not include new features, bug fixes, or technical support. This gives users more time to upgrade to Windows 11 or purchase a new device without compromising security.

Who Is Eligible?

To qualify for ESU, your device must:

• Be running Windows 10 version 22H2 (Home, Pro, Pro Education, or Workstation editions)
• Have the latest cumulative updates installed
• Be signed in with a Microsoft account with administrator privileges

How to Enrol in ESU

To activate ESU on your Windows 10 device, go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update, and look for the ESU Enrolment option. From there you can enrol.

Important Considerations

• ESU is not a long-term solution. It’s designed to give users a grace period to transition to a supported operating system.
• You can enrol any time before 13^th October 2026, but earlier enrolment ensures maximum coverage.
• The ESU licence can cover up to 10 devices tied to the same Microsoft account.
