Windows 10 Extended Security Updates now free in the UK

Good news for Windows 10 users in the UK: Microsoft is offering Extended Security Updates (ESU) to help keep your device secure now that official support for Windows 10 has ended as of 14th October 2025. While ESU was originally going to cost a one-time fee of £24.99, it’s now possible to enrol for free in the UK.
What Is ESU?
The ESU program provides critical security updates for Windows 10 devices until 13th October 2026. It does not include new features, bug fixes, or technical support. This gives users more time to upgrade to Windows 11 or purchase a new device without compromising security.
Who Is Eligible?
To qualify for ESU, your device must:
- Be running Windows 10 version 22H2 (Home, Pro, Pro Education, or Workstation editions)
- Have the latest cumulative updates installed
- Be signed in with a Microsoft account with administrator privileges
How to Enrol in ESU
To activate ESU on your Windows 10 device, go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update, and look for the ESU Enrolment option. From there you can enrol.
Important Considerations
- ESU is not a long-term solution. It’s designed to give users a grace period to transition to a supported operating system.
- You can enrol any time before 13th October 2026, but earlier enrolment ensures maximum coverage.
- The ESU licence can cover up to 10 devices tied to the same Microsoft account.
